THR / Monster Energy / Precision Concepts Kawasaki KX450F Team Takes a Resounding Win at the Baja 500
Corona, CA - June 4
The THR / Monster Energy / Precision Concepts Kawasaki KX450F team of Robby Bell, (rider of record), Steve Hengeveld and David Pearson outperformed the factory KTM, a slew of hard chargers and broke factory Honda’s 15 year winning streak to take the victory at the SCORE, Baja 500 in Ensenada Mexico. Steady riding and quick pit stops kept them in front of the 1x Honda team for most of the day. The 4x team overcame every obstacle in their path to put themselves in commanding control in the late stages of the race. When the 1x team pitted for tires late in the race, THR matched their move putting on fresh Dunlop’s while maintaining the gap. THR Motorsports boss Scott Jacobson said before the race that “our time has come” and couldn’t have been more right. We cannot thank Monster Energy, Precision Concepts, Kawasaki and all our other sponsors enough for standing behind us.
LAPC will be showing at this years Indy Trade Show in Indianapolis. In the next 2 weeks we will be fully armed with these highly anticipated pistons.
We will have a catalog up on our site very soon…... but for now click Here
Combining the industry’s finest piston making minds, and their six decades of motor building salvation, in association with L.A.SLEEVE, the next great piston is upon us. Introducing, the Los Angeles Piston Company. L.A.SLEEVE has entwined their knowledge with the great race engine builders of yesterday, and today, to come up with what they think will answer the demand of so many, a great piston top MX and ATV professionals can punish for so much longer, at an economic solution the average rider can afford.
While we applaud Honda’s direction, the stock exhaust, when sound tested, is drastically lower than current AMA standards leaving ‘power on the table by giving away dBs’ and pushing racers into dealerships to bolt on DR.D performance. Beginner riders to Professionals will instantly feel more bottom, mid, and explosive top-end power on the first ride with a DR.D exhaust.
While new part numbers were required for the exhaust, as mounting brackets on the 2011 are different than ‘09/10 CRF450, it should be noted that that DR.D Graphic Kit and Radiator Lowering Kit part numbers remain unchanged as each fits prior model year.
The 2011 CRF450 is available in Stainless Steel/Aluminum, Stainless Steel/Carbon Fiber, Titanium/Titanium; Titanium/Carbon Fiber variations. In addition, new for 2011 is the offering by DR.D of a Slip-On system for selected models, including, but not limited 2011 Honda CRF450.
Muc-Off’s 2 Liter Pressure Sprayer made Motocross Action Magazine’s What We Want: Cool Stuff on the MXA Must-Have List.
“Similar to a pressurized garden sprayer, only it comes filled with Muc-Off. It’s an eco-friendly option that lets you take advantage of Muc-Off’s 5-liter and 25-liter refills, and is handy for quick washes at the track as well as cleaning at home.”
After a few weeks off the entire team returned to New Berlin, New York healthy and ready to race. Ben Townley was coming off an injury he suffered at Washougal and Wil Hahn was back after shoulder surgery nearly two months ago. Cole Seely even spent some time on the sidelines with a broken nose and he was back at Unadilla as well.
Check out pictures of the AP Racing 2010 YZ450F project bike, set up with gear and tweaking from AP Brakes, L.A. Sleeve, CP Pistons, Precision Concepts, Hinson Clutch Components, and Trick Racing Fuel. From Motocross Action Magazine:
“All in all, the (stock) 2010 Yamaha YZ450F is a good motocross bike—not a great one, though, because it needs more power, improved top end and a sleeker layout. To that end, the MXA wrecking crew ordered up four full-race, hopped-up 2010 YZ450F project bikes. We told Hot Cams, AP Racing, Yoshimura and Pro Circuit that there were no holds barred—choke holds, arm bars and knee drops were allowed. They were asked to build the ultimate expression of what a YZ450F could be.”
In an effort that was nothing short of epic, the Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light triumphed in Stage One of the BMC Cascade Cycling Classic, with the stage win and yellow jersey for Cath Cheatley and a third place finish for Rushlee Buchanan.

Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda rider Ben Townley has confirmed that he will line up for the GP at Glen Helen just one week away. The former world champion and 250 supercross champion counts many of the GP riders and regulars as good friends. Another memorable Glen Helen weekend for Doug "The Doctor" Dubach at the USGP.
