Baja 1000 2009, Kawasaki Race Report

Hi Everyone,
It’s been a week since the Baja 1000, and I’m sure many of you know how it went. We came so close. Here is a basic run down as how the race went.
Start to Nuevo Junction mile 101: Robby Bell
Started 5th and passed into the physical at mile 11. At Nuevo junction was 8 1/2 minutes over 12X (5 1/2 minutes adjusted time)...

Her record stands at 4 WORCS Championships in 7 years. This just 1 week after from returning from Portugal where she finished 2nd in the World riding the Women’s class at ISDE 6 days. Her Maxxis, FMF, GPR, Rekluse, KTM 300 XC ran perfect for all 6 days. The U.S. Women’s team finished 4th overall. Previous to ISDE Maria finished 2nd at the Glen Helen WORCS race. She just moved into the lead on the last lap but a crash near the end had Maria and Penny Cyrus drag racing to the finish with Maria finishing 2nd by less than a bike length after 1 hour of racing. Maria caps of the year with the rest of RPM Racing Team in Las Vegas at the Maxxis Endurocross November 21st.
NICK BURSON & HUSQVARNA WIN ELSINORE GP ON WAY TO USDR TITLE
First ever win for Burson and a first Elsinore win for Husky in decades.
November 13, 2009 - Woodcliff Lake, NJ - With a championship almost in hand and the last race of the season just days away, most racers would be content to find a quiet place and hunker down before the final showdown. Not so for Zip-Ty Racing Husqvarna rider Nick Burson who’s zen was interrupted by a call from his boss Ty Davis, the owner and manager of Zip-Ty Racing.
Nick Burson"Ty suggested I race the Elsinore Grand Prix. I’d never entered the event before so I said ‘Why not?’ I hadn’t planned to race ‘til the USDR final but Elsinore is close to home and it’d be good training if nothing else,” said Burson. “Now that it’s all over I’m glad that Ty called and proud to be able to list an Elsinore Grand Prix victory on my resume!”
Burson’s Elsinore race day began with a couple of Expert class laps that allowed he and Davis to prep Burson’s Husqvarna TXC 510 for the weekend’s main event The Harvey Mushman 100, which borrows its name from Steve McQueen who entered the 1970 Elsinore Grand Prix using the pseudonym. McQueen raced the event at the urging of then winner Malcolm Smith. The pair rode Husqvarna motorcycles and they both figured prominently in Bruce Brown’s 1970 epic film documentary “On Any Sunday”.
Taylor "the threat" Robert check in after last round of WORCS

The final race of the WORCS series was held this last weekend in Mesquite, Nv, and it turned out to be an eventful one indeed. The track was super sandy and with no rain it was quite dry too. The WORCS crew did a great job of watering as much as they could but a good start would still be critical with portions of the track being really dusty.
Brave soldier Product review by Niks customer
I have always used different types of chapstick when on the mountain or road bike. The lips usually take a lot of damage from the sun, wind, and dehydration (which should never happen). The Brave Solider lip balm product has worked very well for these activities. The balm is easy to apply and is thick enough to last a very long before needing another application. I also enjoyed that the balm has very little to no taste. Fruity tastes can sometimes be irritable when trying to crank out a big effort…
Big Robs Glen Helen report

Coming into this weekend, I knew I was prepared enough for a hot and tough weekend at Glen Helen Raceway. The track is known as a rough track that can throw you down to the ground in a heartbeat. This was my home track race since for me I only live 10 minutes away. I spent a lot of time testing at the track months before the race so I could have the best possible set up for this race. Unclassified I felt really good and super comfortable with the track. The track was almost the same as a local SRA GP race, so I was super happy. The 450A race started ok…
Endurox Excel Electrolyte Replenisher

So not only does So Cal have some of the worst traffic to cycle through and we also have some of the hottest driest weather in the region. Well we can’t do much about the traffic but the weather we are able to cope with thanks to nutritional supplements and training our body’s natural ability to adapt. Personally I am not a huge fan of supplements of any kind. I think that eating right and finding the proper fuel for your body you will experience the greatest gains. That doesn’t mean I am not open to trying new things. A friend of mine sent me some samples of Endurox Excel Electrolyte replenisher. What does that long fancy name mean…

Taylor Robert wins last round of WORCS
The last round of the WORCS series took place in Mesquite Nevada. It is notorious for it's sand whoops. This year would be no exception. With no rain in the forcast, and temperatures in the 80's, there would be dust and silt. The DT1 air filters would be tested to the limit. A good start would be critical…
24 Hours of Glen Helen Race Report
With one last WORCS race and Baja Looming on the Horizon, the 24 Hours

races. What bike to use?, what riders?, was all decided just before
the race…

precision concepts racing, worcs glen helen

Things were looking good coming into this race. Taylor was on the mend from his finger injury and Robby and Jamie were healthy and ready to go. September is usually hot in Southern California, and this day was no exception. A big turn out made the course one of the roughest of the year. 36 Pros signed up to do battle.
Off the start, Jamie had a good jump and ran top 3. Taylor was next in 8th with Robby around 15th. About a half lap in, A bottle neck formed. The top 3 riders made it through clean, then it was all stop. Taylor and Robby were not so lucky as they were stopped so long, that most of the riders turned their motors off to wait. Then the Pro 2’s came and they along with a few Pros cut off this section. All was not well…
glen helen WORCS race report, By Killian woder

Killian Woder #313
Round 9 of the WORCS Series was held at the world famous Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino California. We were expecting it to be one of the toughest races due to the dry conditions and the fact that Southern California is the home of some of the fastest riders in the country. The weekend didn’t start out very good for Killian; he woke up Saturday morning with an upset stomach and couldn’t hold down any breakfast. He made it to the line for the 250f B and was able to get a pretty good start but his stomach just wouldn’t cooperate. He still managed a top 5 finish but was really worn out. After the race he threw up a few more times and then slept for a couple hours. He woke up feeling much better and was able to eat and drink a little. The Open B race found Killian back to his old self, he pulled a good start and rode a solid race with a 2nd place finish. Sunday tested Killian’s mechanics and support team. A radiator failure after the second lap forced a pit stop with Killian in 3rd. We want to thank Chris Goolsby and one of our team mate’s dads, Mark Lissor, for their expert help. We were able to fix the radiator issue…
accelerade better than Gatorade, hydration key to cycling

As of right now my plan is to complete the Redlands Bulldog Triathlon by myself. Now I barely have the fitness to even train for this kind of thing without supplements.
First on my list of priorities is hydration. I previously used Cytomax in my races and past training sessions but didn’t care for the cotton mouth it gave me. I am now devoted to Accelerade. The taste of the orange is delicious like orange soda but has less of a sugary taste and you notice slightly more salts. I have also tried the lemon lime with initially thinking it tasted similar to Alka-Seltzer, but using it a second time I came to like. It didn’t leave clumpy residue in my bottles or mold up after letting the bottles sit for a day. With Accelerade…

Muc-Off Degreaser Spray

I recently had an ankle injury that kept me from riding, and if I’m not riding, I’m lazy. So naturally after riding my last ride before getting hurt I waited until I was healed ready to ride before I cleaned my Stumpjumper. Of course my chain was gunked up and would create an unnecessary amount of resistance.
With the Muc-Off De-Greaser all I did was flip my bike upside down, hold a rag on the underside of my chain (out of concern for my relatively new bike’s paintjob), spray the De-Greaser through the chain onto the rag, wipe the chain up and down and all the grime was gone. As you spray the product you literally see the dirt and grease being blasted off. And within the amount of time it took me to put away the De-Greaser and grab a bottle of lube, the chain was dry, ready for copious lubrication.
The next day, it felt good to be back on the bike, just to stretch out on the Fullerton Loop, nothing serious. But I noticed a smooth feel of the chain without all of the junk build up normally not fully removed in a typical wash. And of course, what would be testing out an aerosol product without seeing how big of a flame I could produce? Here’s a pic at night.
ZIP-ty checks in
his past weekend was a busy time for Zip-Ty Racing. We headed down south to Florence, SC. wth Cory Graffunder and Gary Sutherlin for the third round of the Endurocross Series. It was a great weekend for both riders as Cory won his qualifier, and Gary Finished second in his qualifier. IN the main event, both riders got great starts and Cory stayed strong through the moto, rode smooth, and finished 3rd. Gary hung on strong adn finished in 10th position overall. Columbus OH. is the next round of endurocross on the 3rd of October.

something about mud flying around!

when Mud flings in your face at a race or even riding some local trails it sometimes can get annoying!
but when you look back at it or even see it happening in a photo It is almost a image of pure beauty.
chris blose and the troy lee designs team update
The Troy Lee Designs/ Lucas Oil/ PPG/ Honda team had a roller coaster weekend at the Thunder Valley National in Colorado last weekend. Jake Moss and Chris Blose made it clear that they intended to have breakout rides over the weekend by posting the first and fourth quickest times in the second practice session. Their young teammate, Sean Borkenhagen, logged his best qualifying time this season with a ninth in the 250 class.
In the first 450 moto Chris Blose rounded turn one in second place behind Red Bull/Honda’s Ivan Tedesco. Moss was close behind in fifth but it wouldn’t take him long to move up and eventually pass his teammate. By lap three Moss was in a solid third behind Tedesco and Short while Blose fell back to the eighth spot. And that’s where both riders stayed until the closing laps when Reed…

Northland Motorsports/Precision Concepts Kawasaki Race Team 12 Hours of Glen Helen Race, June 27,
After winning the 6 hour race earlier in the year, we made plans to race the 12 hour and continue testing our set ups. Team riders Robby Bell and Jamie Lanza were joined by Ryan Abbatoye and Ty Renshaw. Third team rider, Taylor Robert, was at the Colorado MX National. With temperatures expected over 100 degrees, it was going to be a real test of both the riders and bike. You are allowed a second bike in impound for use in case the first bike has problems, or just to run a fresh bike later in the race. Our goal was to run only one bike to challenge our pit times for service or repair if needed.
Robby started the race with a 4th place start. He immediately shot to the lead and began pulling a lead. At the end of the first hour, he handed the bike to Jamie with over 2’30” lead. Jamie continued the charge for the next hour and increased the gap to over four minutes. One lap later, we were in the pit for our first pit work….

Having a good attitude while racing a motorcycle
Is it me, or does keeping a good attitude during a race get harder with age? It seems when I was younger, it was easier to race with drive and confidence. Now, when I am the last off the line into the first corner, the thought of quitting and riding in cruise control the remainder of the race seems to be my automatic plan B. So I find myself observing persons of all ages throughout the race day. It always amazes me how carefree the kids are. There are no worries for them; they just have fun riding and fool around when the race is over. Even so, it is hard for them to be my inspiration due to my age and responsibilities.
The Vet races usually begin a week prior to those of other classes. More so in the recent years, these events have been stressful. There are a number of things to prepare for in addition to the unexpected circumstances I must be ready to tackle. It takes time to get my bike and gear together…

Northland Motorsports/Precision Concepts race report for Honey Lake Worcs May 10, 2009
Riders: Jamie Lanza, Robby Bell, Taylor Robert
At the base of the mountains in the sierras, this is one of the most scenic stops in the series all year. Big elevation changes weren’t the only track news. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks! With the atv race the previous weekend, the off road sections were already rough, beat, and did I mention rocks? embedded rocks that don’t move would require careful navigation in several areas.
At the start, Jamie had a great jump and rounded the first corner in third. This only lasted 20 feet, as he was punted off the course by another rider. Taylor had a top 10 start, only to get caught up with other riders and go down. Robby had a terrible start, but at 3 turns in was the highest running team rider in 20th. The charge was on…

DIRT BIKE REVIEWS MUC-OFF FOAM FRESH
Ron’s helmet stinks. We don’t know if it’s his hair gel or some enzyme that people from Oklahoma secrete through their scalps, but it can make your knees weak. The helmet itself isn’t that old, so we’re pretty sure it’s Ron’s fault. The people at Muc-Off are heavily into being neat and clean. They smelled Ron’s helmet and…
Eco Motorcycles: Computer-controlled 2015 Honda CB 750 runs on hydrogen
Eco Factor: Zero-emission concept motorcycle powered by hydrogen.
Adding style and function to the famous 1970s-80s Honda CB Series, designer Igor Chak has designed the 2015 Honda CB 750, which is a green beast controlled by the most sophisticated technology. The bike has been designed to run on a four-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine emitting nothing more than a few drops of clean water.
Mostly all the systems running inside its powerhouse are controlled by computers, which is further controlled through a 5” OLED multi-touch display positioned right on the fuel tank. The computer has three menu options – GPS, Drive Modes and Diagnostics Mode. So if any day you feel your bike isn’t performing well, don’t take it a garage but connect it to your home computer. To keep the weight of the bike under control, the bike will be made using a combination of carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium.
The engine performance is enhanced with a six-speed dual clutch transmission with electronic lurch and traction control. Going fast on this machine doesn’t mean risking your life, as it comes with ABS, airbag, steering damper and radar technology that could sense an upcoming head-on collision and automatically slow the bike.
Muc-off and Chris Vermeulen

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP began on a positive note during the first day of testing for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi.
Chris Vermeulen led the way for the team with the fourth fastest time of the day, as he recorded a best lap of 1’49.382 from his 17-laps around the 4,801m Motegi circuit. Vermeulen got through a large amount of work with his crew - despite the session only being 45-minutes long - and was able to complete three good runs that supplied him, and the Suzuki Technicians, with valuable data as they prepare for this Sunday’s race.
Loris Capirossi was narrowly behind his team-mate as he clocked a quickest time of 1’49.980 from his 19 laps, to give him sixth place overall. Capirossi was pleased with the day’s work, but is convinced…

WORCS Race Hollister, Ca. April 19, 2009
Pro riders: Taylor Robert
Robby Bell
Jamie Lanza
The fourth round of the WORCS series stopped in at Hollister Hills SVRA. With temperatures reaching into the low 90’s, it was set to be a hot and dusty day. The WORCS crew did a great job of keeping dust to a minimum by watering in areas previousy unreachable. With 30 Pros on the line and a tight twisty course, the start would be crushal. We were finally at full strength as Jamie Lanza was back from his shoulder surgery and fired up to race after a 5 month layoff.
At the start, Jamie shot out in 3rd place. Taylor gated at the edge of the top 10, with Robby mistiming and running 24th. On the 1st lap, Jamie got a little excited and went down twice falling back to 25th…
