Introducing the Los Angeles Piston Company
Combining the industry’s finest piston making minds, and their six decades of motor building salvation, in association with L.A.SLEEVE, the next great piston is upon us. Introducing, the Los Angeles Piston Company. L.A.SLEEVE has entwined their knowledge with the great race engine builders of yesterday, and today, to come up with what they think will answer the demand of so many, a great piston top MX and ATV professionals can punish for so much longer, at an economic solution the average rider can afford.
LAPC will offer 2-stroke and 4-stroke piston for most modern dirt bikes and atv’s. Unlike their piston making counterparts, LAPC will not create a mass produced market monster. Instead, the LAPC will focus on only today’s most popular models for offroad, mx and atv racing and recreation. While limiting their product line to only popular models, their focus will concentrate at the finer points of piston flaws not being addressed by the big name piston brands.
LAPC will use their resources in racing to dissect the little things not being addressed by the mass produced piston brands. All LAPC pistons will have enhanced 2618 low silicon, or 4038 high silicon materials as their forgings. Pistons will be coated with their proprietary “ProMalloy” skirt and dome skating surfaces. And, patrons get at no extra charge Pro-Cross Pro-Cool under crown micro machining for uniformed deck thickness. They’re just lightened enough, with spun-bossed and window milling, gas ported (if necessary), and grooved reduction valleys to grab any residual combustion gas not being captured by the initial piston ring defense. And finally, precision honed wrist pin bores are standard for all piston applications.
Custom pistons will not be offered by the Los Angeles Piston Company. In order to produce a fine line of pistons for the professional rider and race team, yet remain economical for the average weekend warrior, LAPC strategically positions their place among the piston maker elites by not forgetting what creates a lasting relationship among their customers – affordability, quality and service. LAPC will focus their piston line with those users in mind. Piston kits will range in the retail price of $62.00 to $120.00 for 2-strikes, and $78.00 to $205 for 4-strokes.
The LAPC pistons will be sold exclusively through Niks Distributing and L.A.SLEEVE. To learn more about the Los Angeles Piston Company, please visit www.niksdistributing.com or call 562-945-1098.

New 2011 HONDA CRF450 EXHAUSTS
While we applaud Honda’s direction, the stock exhaust, when sound tested, is drastically lower than current AMA standards leaving ‘power on the table by giving away dBs’ and pushing racers into dealerships to bolt on DR.D performance. Beginner riders to Professionals will instantly feel more bottom, mid, and explosive top-end power on the first ride with a DR.D exhaust.
While new part numbers were required for the exhaust, as mounting brackets on the 2011 are different than ‘09/10 CRF450, it should be noted that that DR.D Graphic Kit and Radiator Lowering Kit part numbers remain unchanged as each fits prior model year.
The 2011 CRF450 is available in Stainless Steel/Aluminum, Stainless Steel/Carbon Fiber, Titanium/Titanium; Titanium/Carbon Fiber variations. In addition, new for 2011 is the offering by DR.D of a Slip-On system for selected models, including, but not limited 2011 Honda CRF450.
Muc-Off Demo Day
MXA What We Want: Muc-Off 2-Liter Pressure Sprayer
Muc-Off’s 2 Liter Pressure Sprayer made Motocross Action Magazine’s What We Want: Cool Stuff on the MXA Must-Have List.
“Similar to a pressurized garden sprayer, only it comes filled with Muc-Off. It’s an eco-friendly option that lets you take advantage of Muc-Off’s 5-liter and 25-liter refills, and is handy for quick washes at the track as well as cleaning at home.”
Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda Team Returns to Unadilla

Cole Seely (photo Kardas)
After a few weeks off the entire team returned to New Berlin, New York healthy and ready to race. Ben Townley was coming off an injury he suffered at Washougal and Wil Hahn was back after shoulder surgery nearly two months ago. Cole Seely even spent some time on the sidelines with a broken nose and he was back at Unadilla as well.
The 450 motos did not go the way Ben Townley planned. After climbing as high as third in the championship standings two rounds prior, Ben was looking to make up some ground on his competitors at a venue that he is quite fond of. BT fought with Andrew Short for the first part of moto one as he tried to make his way into the top five. By the mid-way point in the race Ben seemed to lose his drive and slipped several spots to seventh by the end of the moto. His second moto would prove to be more frustrating and Townley would cross the stripe in ninth position for sixth overall on the day.
“This definitely wasn’t the result I was looking for today,” said a disappointed Townley. “I put on a bit of a charge right at the beginning but then I just couldn’t find a way around Short and it stalled me out a bit. The second moto wasn’t much better. I was really hoping to do well here because I do like this track. All I can do is look forward and prepare for next weekend. I love that facility as well and I need to get back up to the front.”
Wil Hahn and Cole Seely were both returning from injury as well. Seely posted one of his better motos all year in the first go-round with a ninth. Hahn could only get to fourteenth by the end of the race. The second moto Cole didn’t get the start he needed to capitalize on his first moto finish and he would spend the entire race making passes towards the front. Wilbur would do likewise and get to eleventh at the checkers while Cole could only get to eighteenth at the finish. Wil Hahn just cracked the top ten with 14-11 motos for tenth. Cole Seely posted 9-18 moto scores to get a twelfth overall on the day.
As the series moves to New England and the infamous MX338 in Southwick there is much to be hopeful for. All of the TLD riders, including Florida resident Tarah Gieger, love the sandy conditions. Look for great things out of the team next weekend.
AP Racing’s 2010 YZ450F MXA Project Bike
Check out pictures of the AP Racing 2010 YZ450F project bike, set up with gear and tweaking from AP Brakes, L.A. Sleeve, CP Pistons, Precision Concepts, Hinson Clutch Components, and Trick Racing Fuel. From Motocross Action Magazine:
“All in all, the (stock) 2010 Yamaha YZ450F is a good motocross bike—not a great one, though, because it needs more power, improved top end and a sleeker layout. To that end, the MXA wrecking crew ordered up four full-race, hopped-up 2010 YZ450F project bikes. We told Hot Cams, AP Racing, Yoshimura and Pro Circuit that there were no holds barred—choke holds, arm bars and knee drops were allowed. They were asked to build the ultimate expression of what a YZ450F could be.”

Cath Cheatley of Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team p/b Cooking Light Wins Stage 1 and Overall Lead

In an effort that was nothing short of epic, the Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light triumphed in Stage One of the BMC Cascade Cycling Classic, with the stage win and yellow jersey for Cath Cheatley and a third place finish for Rushlee Buchanan.
Cath, Rushlee, and teammates Kelly Benjamin, Theresa Cliff-Ryan, Andrea Dvorak, Modesta Vzesniauskaite, and guest riders Amber Rais and Kristin Sanders attacked the McKenzie Pass Road Race with everything they had. With a 20-mile climb up McKenzie Pass, followed by a 10-mile climb to the finish at Three Creeks’ Snow Park, the McKenzie Pass Road Race distinguished itself as the hardest stage of any race this season. Colavita/Baci went into the stage with six riders in the top 25 following the opening Prologue and planned to race aggressively from the start to force an early break to set up a teammate for climbing star Cath Cheatley to launch to.
About 15km into the stage, Colavita/Baci’s Andrea Dvorak and Kristin Sanders and 11 other riders were able to pull clear. With all the big teams represented, the break quickly gained time and built up a maximum lead of 2 ½ minutes before Peanut Butter & Co. Twenty12 started driving the bunch in pursuit. Mara Abbott, winner of the Giro Donne, attacked, marked closely by Cath, and the two climbers caught a splintering break. Attacking again, Mara went clear alone with Cath and Webcor’s Katheryn Mattis in pursuit. At the top of Mackenzie Pass, Mara had gained 1.20 minutes over Cath and Kathryn with the remnants of the bunch a further three minutes back.
Working together on the descent, Cath and Katheryn caught Mara. With Team Vera Bradley Foundation working hard in defense of the yellow jersey, the shrunken bunch came within 50 seconds of catching the leaders when the road pitched up again and the climbers widened their lead. On the steepest section of the climb, Katheryn was unable to hold the pace and dropped back as Cath and Mara forged on.
Driving hard to gain as much time as possible, Cath extended the pair’s advantage but still kept enough in reserve to kick around the final corner and take the stage win and the yellow jersey. Teammates Rushlee Buchanan, Andrea Dvorak, and Amber Rais bided their time before attacking to take third, fifth, and sixth on the stage. Colavita/Baci moves into first place in the team rankings and Rushlee retains the lead in the Best Young Rider competition.

Dubach To Race Vet Championship At USP
Norco, CA. (May 25, 2010)—Doug Dubach, Dubach Racing Development (DR.D) owner, is confirmed and ready to race the USGP at Glen Helen. The former Factory Yamaha racer, Supercross winner, 17x Vet World Champion returns to the GP roots that helped launch his career some 25 years ago.
"When I was first approached about racing this event, it seemed like it would be a walk in the park. However, everyday more fast riders keep signing up and Im forced to go out and ride longer motos," joked Doug Dubach. "Our starting gate will look like the Hangtown National from years ago. Dowd, Mataisevich, Ty Davis, plus former Champions Darryl King, Chuck Sun and Kurt Nicoll, are all still blazing fast. Mats Nilsson, from Sweden, last year's FIM Vet Champ is on a tear again and has not lost a moto all year so Im sure he'll be on fire."
Dubach's family, friends, and his employees will be stationed throughout the track cheering on the #15 Yamaha YZ450F racer, dad, and DR.D boss.

Dubach enjoyed a rare day off in observance of Memorial Day, spending time with friends and family poolside but was back at the track, his real home, on Tuesday by 7am testing the latest DR.D designs.
Congratulates to Doug Dubach and a special thanks to the FIM, Todd Hoffman at Pipeline Media, John Duffy at Applied, O'Neal USA, Decal MX, Enzo, Shoei, and Yamaha for all the assistance and support.
